About Burger
Burger Boat Company was founded at Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1863 by Henry B. Burger Sr, which makes it the oldest yacht builder in the United States still in business. It was bought in 1993 by Jim Ruffolo and David Ross and remains privately held, employing around 350 people and delivering an average of three yachts a year.
Burgers are custom, one at a time, and almost always metal - welded aluminium since the 1950s. Of roughly 500 built, about 250 are still in service, which tells you most of what you need to know about how they are put together. On the brokerage market they are valued on refit history rather than year: a well-kept 1990s Burger can be a better boat than something twenty years newer in fiberglass.
