What Palm Beach Is
Palm Beach has the Gulf Stream closer to the beach than anywhere else in Florida, a few miles off Lake Worth Inlet, and the fishing that follows from it. That has shaped the fleet: convertible sportfish, big centre consoles, and motor yachts kept by owners who cross to the islands and fish on the way.
It is also a refit centre in its own right, with serious yards on the Riviera Beach side of the inlet handling boats up to superyacht size. For an owner that means the work can be done without moving her south.
The market here is quieter than Fort Lauderdale's and more seasonal, which cuts both ways: fewer comparables, but a buyer pool that knows exactly what it wants.
The Stream, minutes offshore
Blue water is closer to Lake Worth Inlet than to any other inlet in the state. For anyone who fishes, that is the whole argument for keeping a boat here.
Sportfish country
The tournament calendar and the fleet that follows it are centred on this stretch. It shows in what is listed and in what sells quickly.
Yards without going south
Riviera Beach handles refit and repair up to large yacht size, so an owner based here is not committed to a run down to Lauderdale every time something needs doing.
A straight shot to the islands
Lake Worth Inlet is a common departure for West End and the Abacos, and the crossing is short enough to be a morning rather than a passage.

Lake Worth Inlet is deep, maintained and one of the more forgiving on the coast, which is why boats that cross regularly favour it.

Palm Beach Questions
Why do sportfish boats concentrate around Palm Beach?
Because the Gulf Stream runs closer to shore here than anywhere else in Florida. A few miles off Lake Worth Inlet rather than fifteen or twenty. Less running time to blue water means more fishing time on a given day, and the tournament fleet has settled here accordingly.
Is dockage cheaper than Fort Lauderdale?
Not reliably. The prime Palm Beach and North Palm Beach marinas price with anywhere in the state, and the top end goes higher. Where the saving usually is, as everywhere in Florida, is a few miles off the prime stretch and on an annual rather than monthly contract.
Can boats be refitted here?
Yes. Riviera Beach has serious capacity, including for large yachts, so an owner based on this stretch does not need to move south for most work. For a major project it is still worth getting quotes from Fort Lauderdale and Dania as well; a clear written scope is what makes those quotes comparable.
How is the market different from further south?
Quieter, more seasonal, and more specialised toward fishing. There are fewer comparable listings of any given model at one time, which means pricing has to lean harder on closed sales from the wider market rather than on what is currently listed nearby.
Buying or Selling in Palm Beach?
We are based in Fort Lauderdale and we work this whole coast. A broker is aboard for every showing, wherever she lies, and there is no fee to a buyer for having one there.
