About Grand Alaskan
The Alaskan name goes back to the 1960s, when Arthur DeFever was drawing wooden trawler-style yachts for construction in Hong Kong and around Asia. When the market moved to fiberglass in the early 1970s he redrew the idea, and the Grand Alaskans that followed kept the look that made the originals - swept sheer, plenty of freeboard, a high buoyant bow - on a semi-displacement hull that would run rather than only plod.
Built in Taiwan and sold as semi-custom, mostly in the 60 to 64 foot range with a flush deck and a cockpit, they were among the best-selling long-range cruisers of their era, roughly 1998 to 2006.
