About Grand Banks
Grand Banks began in Hong Kong in 1956 as American Marine, founded by Robert J. Newton and his sons John and Whit. Its Grand Banks 36, launched in 1964, is widely credited with creating the production trawler category, and 1,141 were built before the model ended in 2003. The first fiberglass Grand Banks came in 1973, production later moved to Singapore, and the company opened its yard in Malaysia in 1995.
Since Grand Banks bought Palm Beach Motor Yachts in 2014, Palm Beach founder Mark Richards has led the company, and newer Grand Banks models use his V-Warp hull design with carbon-fiber decks and superstructures. The group builds Grand Banks, Eastbay and Palm Beach yachts at Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. On the used market, classic trawlers sit alongside these faster modern yachts, so buyers should decide which era and hull type suits their cruising plans.
