About Hinckley
Hinckley started in 1928 as the Manset Boatyard at Southwest Harbor, Maine, looking after the local lobster boats and the summer people's yachts. Henry Hinckley built his first boat in 1933 and the yard's first sailing vessel, a 28-foot Sparkman & Stephens sloop, in 1938. It was among the earliest American yards to take fiberglass seriously, and the Bermuda 40 that followed is one of the most admired production sailing yachts ever built.
The modern company is defined by the Picnic Boat: 1994, waterjet drive, and the JetStick that let one person put a boat alongside without a bow thruster or a deckhand. It changed what a dayboat was expected to be. Everything Hinckley builds is hand-laid Kevlar and carbon over a jig, finished to a standard closer to furniture than boatbuilding, and priced accordingly. They hold value like almost nothing else on the American market, and the company's own service yards up and down the East Coast are part of the reason.
