About Hylas
Hylas was founded in 1984 by Joseph Huang of Queen Long Marine, out of a partnership with Sparkman & Stephens that produced the Stevens 47. Two German Frers designs at 42 and 44 feet followed the same year, and Bill Dixon and Salthouse of New Zealand have contributed since.
These are semi-custom centre-cockpit bluewater boats from roughly 42 to 70 feet, and they are bought by people who intend to cross oceans in them - the 46, 49 and 54 in particular have the reputation. Semi-custom is the operative word: layouts, rig and equipment vary between hulls of the same model, so the specification sheet matters more than the model number when comparing two.
