About Mangusta
Giuseppe Balducci founded Overmarine at Viareggio in 1985, and the Mangusta 80 Open that followed - 24 metres, planing, waterjet-driven - created a category that had not existed. A big open boat with no flybridge, no compromise on speed, and the whole deck given over to being outside. Everyone who builds one now is working in a shape Mangusta defined.
The group runs ten facilities across Viareggio, Massa and Pisa, 210,000 square metres, and is still run by the founding family, now in its third generation. More than 320 boats have been delivered, over 130 of them on waterjets. The range has widened - there are transoceanic performance yachts and full-displacement superyachts now - but the Maxi Opens remain the identity. On a used one, the waterjets and their controls deserve a specialist's eye; everything else about these boats is built heavy.
