About MJM
MJM was founded in 2002 by Bob Johnstone, who had co-founded J Boats a quarter of a century earlier and could not find the powerboat he and his wife Mary wanted - so he had it built. Doug Zurn drew it, Boston BoatWorks built it, and every MJM since has come out of that same yard on Boston's inner harbour.
The boats are the sailing world's answer to a powerboat. Epoxy pre-preg with Kevlar and Corecell, a narrow beam ratio around three and a half to one, and consequently a boat that runs on roughly half the fuel of its competition at the same speed. The Downeast-style pilothouse with opening glass is the other half of the appeal. They are not for everyone - the beam that makes them efficient makes them less voluminous - and the people who want one usually know exactly why.
