About Nautor Swan
Nautor was founded in 1966 by Pekka Koskenkylä at Pietarsaari on the Finnish coast, and the first boat, the Swan 36, introduced fiberglass and a good deal else to a market that had not seen it. Sparkman & Stephens drew approximately the first thousand hulls - the 38, the 47, the 55, the 65 - and Leonardo Ferragamo and a group of investors have run the company since 1998.
A Swan is bought as much for what it will be worth in fifteen years as for what it does now, and the two are connected: they were overbuilt, they were sailed hard by people who looked after them, and the class associations keep the histories. Older S&S boats are collectable in their own right. Whichever era, buy on the rig, the deck hardware and the records, and expect to pay a premium over anything comparable that is not a Swan.
