About Navigator
Jule Marshall had already built boats for twenty years - the Marshall Boat Company in Santa Ana from 1966, which became California Yachts - when he sold up in 1987 and started again. Navigator followed in 1988, founded with his sons Steven and Gil at Perris, California, and the first boat was 33 feet. The proposition was an American-built raised pilothouse at a price that competed with the Taiwanese imports then dominating the West Coast.
It worked: more than a thousand boats followed, from 45 to 68 feet, semi-custom enough that two of the same model can be laid out quite differently. The pilothouse is the whole point - a raised helm with real sightlines, a settee behind it, and the saloon down a few steps. Production has ended, so read the general arrangement rather than the model number when you compare two, and expect a West Coast boat to have seen more cruising than a Florida one.
