About Northern Marine
Richard "Bud" LeMieux had built yachts and commercial vessels at Delta Marine in Seattle for more than two decades when he started Northern Marine at Anacortes in 1995. The idea was a genuinely oceangoing trawler yacht built in advanced composite rather than steel - lighter, no corrosion, and quieter - in a part of the world where people actually cross oceans in these boats.
The first was Spirit of Zopilote, a 62-foot long-range cruiser completed in 1997 for the producer Bruce Kessler. Around twenty-eight boats followed, from 35 to 152 feet, before the ownership changed in 2006; Seattle Yachts bought the brand in 2019 and building continues at Anacortes. These are serious passagemakers - large tankage, full displacement, engineered for weeks at sea - and the used ones are typically owned by people who used them properly and kept the records to prove it.
