About Scout
Scout was founded in 1989 by Steve Potts and his wife Dianne, with their savings and an old brick building in Summerville, building 14 and 15 foot boats. Hurricane Hugo levelled the place that September. Potts spent what was left on a stand at the Atlanta show the following spring, and the company has been growing out of Dorchester County ever since.
The boats are epoxy-infused rather than polyester, which makes them light and stiff for the size, and the range spans centre consoles, dual consoles and bay boats from small day boats up into the 50s. Scout sells through a large dealer network, so used ones come with a service history somebody can actually retrieve - not always true at this end of the market.
