About Silverton
Silverton was founded in 1969 in Millville, New Jersey, within the Luhrs family of builders - the same group behind Mainship, Luhrs and Hunter. It built mid-sized flybridge yachts, convertibles and express cruisers from about 30 to 52 feet, and built a great many of them.
The factory closed in February 2012 and the parent, Morgan Industries, filed for Chapter 11 that April, so everything on the market is brokerage. That is less of a problem than it sounds for a boat this common: parts and knowledge are widely available, comparables are plentiful, and prices reflect an out-of-production name. Buy on condition and on the engine survey - the hulls generally outlast the systems.
