Luca Bassani is a lifelong sailor who in 1991 designed a yacht for his own family because nothing on the market did what he wanted. Wally followed in 1994, from Monaco, and it changed how cruising yachts look and are built: flush decks with the hardware hidden, enormous unbroken surfaces, and carbon fibre used as a primary structure long before anyone else thought it belonged outside a race boat.

The sailing yachts came first and are still the purest expression of it. The wallypower and wallytender motor yachts followed - the 118 WallyPower is one of the most photographed boats ever built - and the wallywhy series is the current thinking on interior volume. Wally is now part of the Ferretti Group with Bassani still leading design, which gives it industrial capacity without losing the point of view. Nothing else looks like a Wally, which is the reason people buy them and the reason they hold value.
